Auditors alerted to serious Council failings

Liberal Democrat councillors have accused the Conservative administration of acting unlawfully by failing to report back to the council on two key strategies as required by the law.

Councillor Michael Headley asked the Mayor to refer themselves to the Council’s auditors for this serious failing, but was not given a positive response. Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have now written to the auditors to alert them to this very serious failing.

Cllr Michael Headley said “This administration leaves chaos in its wake. We’ve already had decisions having to be re-made because they were wrong. We’ve had statements repeated that were millions of pounds out, that then had to be publicly corrected and now – most serious of all – they have failed to follow the law.

“This administration is not fit to have the responsibility of running this council if it cannot follow the law on such basic matters. I have never seen such chaotic governance, and we must remember that the good running of this council is about serving local residents effectively and transparently. Chaos leads to poor decisions which will inevitably impact vital frontline services to residents. This Conservative administration seems incapable of getting these basics right and I would urge residents to remove them from office when we get the chance in just over 3 years – I just hope that the rest of us can limit the damage done before then.”
